Coffee with Mom: a small game about a big day

You told Mom you'd be there by six.

Then an email lands at 5:12. Then a quick call turns out not to be quick. Then someone asks for one last change, and you say yes, because saying no would take longer.

By the time you're out the door, you're already doing the math on how late you'll be, and whether she's put the coffee on yet.

The whole game is one commute

You start at the office. A bar at the top fills up as you get closer to Mom's home, and that's pretty much the plot.

On the way, the day throws its usual stuff at you: an urgent email, a quick call, a deadline, overtime, one last change. The low ones you jump. The high ones you duck. Hearts float along the route, and if you grab them in a row your combo goes up.

You get three chances. Run into too many emails and the game asks if you want another go, which, honestly, is a question most weekdays ask too.

And then there's One More Thing

Near the end, something big stands in the road. It's called One More Thing, and you've probably met it.

You can't jump over this one, so you punch it. You keep tapping until it's gone.

Honestly, we made that part for anyone who has had their bag on their shoulder and their jacket on, and then heard "sorry, before you go..."

Why we made a game at all

HeyVini exists for a pretty ordinary reason. When you're busy, or you live far away, time with your parents gets squeezed in around everything else.

We wanted to say that in a way that didn't come with advice attached. So there are no tips in this game and no checklist, just a long day and a cup of coffee with Mom at the end of it.

If you finish the run, the last screen says: "This is the part of the day I look forward to." We built the rest of the game around that one line.
